The Fight for Influence in the Middle East

Nobody expected Russia to intervene in 2015 in Syria because most of the world did not think Russia had enough power to be in another country beyond their own because they haven't done so in almost 25 years. With Russia showing power in the middle east, it brings tension between the U.S. and Russia once again. Some U.S. journalists believe that the Russians have a strategy to stay in power, and its a good one.

Since the end of the soviet union Putin and Moscow have faced "humiliation" and it is time for them to change that. In order to get "payback" Russia wants power in the Middle east. It is not a secret that the U.S. is resented in the Middle East, even by their allies, which makes this a great place for the Russians to start. Since Russia has demonstrated its power and strength in Syria they have earned themselves credibility as an alternative to the Americans. With arms sales, economic deals, and diplomatic maneuvering, Russia has started to steal Turkey and Egypt from the grasp of the United States, but not completely yet. Saudi Arabia's President visited Moscow last October to discuss oil prices and cooperate more to ensure that global oil prices stay in their favor. This is quite the achievement for the Russians because in the last decade the United states have been overwhelmingly
predominant in the Middle East. This issue will continue to grow in years to come, and neither nation has plans of letting up.

    Very interesting that they haven't intervened in another country for 25 years and now are once again involved in Syria. Really interesting read!

    The illustration on this blog is striking. I find it fascinating that a country will put in so much of their efforts and resource into a cause they believe so much in.

Prince Muhammad's goal is to find jobs for young Saudi Arabians, especially because half of them are unemployed. There is some downfall though with this new goal. Labor is becoming more expensive if you hire Saudis compared to the cheap labor payed to a foreigner, also they do not get as much done either. I think that Prince Muhammad has great intentions with this plan, however it is really hurting firms across the country. To get his plan in order, the prince has dumped monthly payments on migrants based on their family size and the people who hire them. Prince Muhammad has also set rules that migrants are not allowed in twelve sectors of the economy. Syria in Shambles

Syria continues to lead headlines in the international and domestic news with a raging conflict that is tearing the nation apart. The civil war that is plaguing Syria does not discriminate in who it affects, newest statistics show that over 1,000 children have been killed or injured in 2018 already. The numbers of deceased, injured, and displaced refugees is astonishing and civilians continue to call out for help from the international community without answer. A strong sense has fallen over the people of Syria that the world has given up on them and is not supporting them in a time of major need. Constant bombing, missile strikes, and mortar shelling is a terrifying reality civilians are living in day after day with no cease in sight. The UAE's Smart City is a block-chain-powered decentralized learning platform that aims to increase the percentage of digitally skilled talent in the UAE to 10 percent by 2020. The Smart City plans to put Dubai 10 years more advanced than other cities. The program gives the community the correct tools to build their digital skills. In all, they want to build Dubai's digital presence. Dr Aisha bint Butti bin Bishr, director general of Smart Dubai Office said "Smart City University will enable individuals not only to build their own educational paths, but also benefit from and get certification for skills acquired through non-traditional learning channels such as work projects, reading materials, conferences, workshops and online courses." The project provides users with a wide variety of digital certifications in different sectors including AI and internet of things technologies in the energy field.
